Scripps Media Classic Rock “Rock 105.1” KJOT Boise has returned to its heritage “J105” identity. KJOT was known as “J105” from 1985 until 2010 when it broaden its playlist to include music from the 1970s through 2000s as “Variety Rock 105.1“. The station then streamlined its music back to a typical 70s-90s Classic Rock mix in 2014 as “Rock 105.1” but retained its jockless presentation. The “J105” brand relaunch is paired with a return to a hosted presentation. The first personality to return is Carl ‘CB’ Ballance, who had been serving as morning traffic reporter for Scripps’ Boise radio and television stations. CB will host middays at KJOT following a brief run in mornings.
Journal Communications Classic Rock “Variety Rock 105.1” KJOT Boise has rebranded as just “Rock 105.1“. Prior to a Christmas Music stunt in 2012, KJOT’s format featured Rock hits from the 1960’s through 2000’s which explained the Variety part of its moniker. The rebranding comes with the station bringing back 90’s songs into its mostly 70’s/80’s based playlist. In the Spring 2014 Nielsen Audio ratings, KJOT’s 3.5 share trailed Cumulus Media’s Classic Rock “96.9 The Eagle” KKGL’s 5.6. KJOT is part of a Journal “Wall of Rock” in Boise along with Active Rock “100.3 The X” KQXR and AAA “94.9 The River” KRVB. The company also owns Classic Hits “107.1 K-Hits” ...[Read More]

Journal Broadcast Group’s “Variety Rock 105.1” KJOT Boise dropped its format for Christmas music on Monday. If this was an AC or Classic Hits station this would be no big deal. Ditto if the company hadn’t let go of its Operations Manager, Susan Groves on Friday just a month after hiring her. Add the station’s low 2.4 share in the Spring book and all signs point to a new format debuting after Christmas. No domain registrations yet, but we would not be surprised to see a form of CHR to take on Peak Broadcasting’s “103.3 Kiss-FM” KSAS-FM and and Impact Radio Rhythmic CHR “Wild 101.1” KWYD. KJOT has featured a Rock format since 1985. Until 2010 it was known as “J105” when its Classic Rock format was broadened and revamped ...[Read More]
