Johnnie D, who has served as Assistant PD of WGCI and Urban AC “V103” 102.7 WVAZ since June 2015 has been promoted to Program Director of WGCI. A pair of on-air personalities at Crawford Urban “Power 92” WPWX Hammond, IN/Chicago have exited for identical positions at iHeartMedia’s 107.5 WGCI. Middayer Frankie Robinson and afternoon host Tone Kapone will make the move to WGCI where they will replace the exiting Loni Swain and UB Rodriguez respectively. For Robinson it is a homecoming as she previously co-hosted nights with Leon Rogers at WGCI from 2007 until 2009. The moves continue the reconstruction of the WGCI lineup that began with the debut of the station’s new morning show hosted by Kyle Santillian, Kendra G, and Leon Rogers earlier this year. DJ MoonDawg remains in place in the 6pm-12am daypart.
iHeartMedia Urban 107.5 WGCI Chicago will debut a new morning show on Thursday, January 29. Station newcomers Kyle Santillian and Kendra G will join incumbent Leon Rogers. Santillian spent ten years in mornings at Entercom’s “102 Jamz” WJMH Greensboro, NC prior to exiting last summer. Kendra G previous spent two years in Chicago co-hosting mornings at Crawford Urban “Power 92.3” WPWX and has also worked at WVEE Atlanta and WPHI Philadelphia. Rogers remains from the previous morning show with Tony Sculfield and Nina Chantele that ended in December. Rogers has been with WGCI since 2005.
iHeartMedia Urban 107.5 WGCI Chicago has let go of their Program Director and morning show amidst dropping ratings. RobertFeder.com reports that PD Kenard Karter has been let go after just nine months in the position. Karter had been with the iHeartMedia Chicago cluster for a decade. Also exiting the station are morning co-hosts Tony Sculfield and Nina Chantele. Chantele had also doubled as midday host at sister CHR “103.5 Kiss-FM” WKSC. The “Morning Riot” had been with WGCI since 2009. The third member of the morning show, Leon Rogers, will continue in the slot with weekender Rob Nice until a new morning show is named. Channel 12 will replace Hot AC “Mix” with a simulcast of CHR “Z100” WHTZ New York. Channel 13 will replace AAA “Music Summit” with a simulcast of AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW New York.
