Larry Wilson, the former founder and CRO of Citadel Broadcasting who operates Alpha Broadcasting in Portland, has acquired Triad Broadcasting for $21 Million. Triad operates with different operational names in the markets it serves, such as Go Radio Fargo, JMP Radio in Peoria, and Adventure Radio in Bluefield and Savannah/Hilton Head The company will be operated under the name L&L Radio, standing for “Live & Local”. The 32 stations involved in the deal serve five markets: Biloxi MS – Sports “96.7 The Champ” WUJM, Rock 97.9 WCPR, Variety Hits “105.9 Bob-FM” WQBB, CHR “107.1 The Monkey” WXYK, and Sports simulcast “The Team” 1490 WXBD/1640 WTNI. The next market to see its heritage News/Talk station make the shift to FM will be Peoria. Triad Broadcasting will soon eliminate Classic Rock “102.3 Max-FM” WDQX to make room for a simulcast of 1470 WMBD. Triad registered 1023WMBD.com and 1023MBD.com on Friday for the station. In the Fall 2011 Arbitron book, 102.3 Max-FM rose from a 2.3 to 3.3 share. The removal of that station will help Townsquare Media’s combo of Active Rock “105.7 The X” WIXO and Classic Rock 95.5 WGLO. Those two stations registered a 5.8 and 3.6 share respectively. WMBD was fifth in the market with a 6.4 share. WMBD currently rebroadcasts its signal on 100.3 W262BY. The 200 watt translator will become redundant with the move of 1470’s programming to 102.3.
The top story this week was Atlanta’s 97.9 W250BC debuting its new format as “Journey 97.9“. Clear Channel has signed on 105.1 W286BK Birmingham, AL. The 99 watt translator is owned by Way FM Media, but simulcasting 105.5 WERC-HD2. While currently airing Smooth Jazz, we expect the station to soon flip to Gospel as “Hallelujah 105.1“. Hallelujah1051.com was registered by Clear Channel on June 16. That would put the station in direct competition with Cox Media Group’s “Heaven 610” WAGG. KGVY Inc., owners of 1080 KGVY Green Valley/Tucson, AZ and Edgewater Broadcasting are swapping translators. Edgewater gets 102.3 K272DC Oro Valley, AZ in exchange for the Construction Permit to 100.7 K264BB Green Valley. Lakes Media’s 103.7 W279AO Danville...[Read More]
