Station Sales Shamrock Communications is selling Alternative 104.1 KRZQ Fallon/Reno NV to John Burkavage’s Big Horn Media for $200,000. Burkavage was the previous General Manager of Shamrock’s Reno cluster until retiring in 2015. He also spent a decade with Entercom as the Market Manager of its Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Greenville/Spartanburg clusters. He is currently operating the station via LMA, while Shamrock retains its other three FMs in the Reno market. After going silent rather than converting its satellite dish, Continental Broadcasting Corp. of Arizona sells 1480 KPHX Phoenix to Cedar Cove Broadcasting for $100,000. KPHX Becomes Second Station To Go Off Due To Satellite Shutdown

Continental Broadcasting Corp. of Arizona has taken Liberal Talk 1480 KPHX Phoenix AZ off the air following the shutdown of the AMC-8 satellite. In an STA filing KPHX wrote: “THE LICENSEE MUST FIND A NEW STUDIO SITE FOR SATELLITE DISH INSTALLATION COMPATIBLE WITH THE NEW AMC 18 SATELLITE, AS THE AMC 8 SATELLITE WAS PHASED OUT ON 6/30/2017. THE STATION IS OFF THE AIR WHILE THE LICENSEE LOOKS FOR A NEW LOCATION.” A message on the KPHX website simply states “KPHX 1480 is no longer broadcasting progressive talk in Phoenix…Thank you for listening”. KPHX had been carrying syndicated Liberal Talkers Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, Leslie Marshall, and The Devil’s Advocates. Randi Rhodes To End Syndicated Show

Syndicated Liberal Talker Randi Rhodes is ending her daily program on May 16. Last November Premiere Radio Networks cancelled and then uncancelled her West Palm Beach based show after agreeing to a contract extension through 2014. The decision to end the program this time came from Rhodes herself. A brief statement from Premiere Radio Networks claimed “Randi Rhodes has decided to end her national radio program. We’ve had a successful partnership with Randi for several years, and we wish her all the best for the future. Premiere Networks will conclude syndication and production of Randi Rhodes on May 16, 2014.” Randi Rhodes aired live from 3-6pm Eastern and includes 910 KKSF San Francisco, 760 KKZN Denver, and 1480 KPHX Phoenix among her larger market affiliates.
