Bell Media Shuts Detroit Offices; 89X Cuts Most Of Its Airstaff

As part of its ongoing corporate restructuring, Bell Media has eliminated the airstaff on Alternative “89X” 88.7 CIMX Windsor ON and closed its Detroit sales office. Exiting with the cuts are morning hosts Cal Cagno and Gillian Reilly, midday hosts Phil “PK” Kukawinski, afternoon host Reed Petitpren and members of the promotions and sales departments. Only night host Mark McKenzie remains from the on-air staff. The company is eliminating is US based sales office for the Detroit market and will focus its efforts on the Canadian side of the border. In addition to CIMX, Bell Media owns Oldies “AM 580” CKWW, News/Talk “AM 800” CKLW, and AAA “93.9 The River” CIDR in the Detroit/Windsor market. Drew & Mike Out; Dave & Chuck In At WRIF

Update 5/20: WRIF has officially announced that Dave & Chuck The Freak will debut on the station on Tuesday, May 28 at 6:00am. The duo will be joined by their CIMX co-host Lisa Way. Original Report 5/8: A morning show change is about to take place at Greater Media Rock 101.1 WRIF Detroit. As first reported on Twitter by Crain’s Detroit Business reporter Bill Shea, Drew Lane and Mike Clark will depart the station on Friday, May 17 and reportedly be replaced by former “89X” 88.7 CIMX morning hosts Dave Hunter and Chuck “The Freak” Urquhart.
