East Valley Institute of Technology has broken up the simulcast of 88.7 KPNG Chandler and 90.7 KVIT Apache Junction AZ as KVIT flips to Classic Country “90.7 The Goldmine“. The high school owned station is featuring Country hits of the past fifty years with a focus on music from 1978-1998. KVIT serves the eastern side of the Phoenix market including Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa. Sister 88.7 KPNG Chandler continues with the “Pulse” Hot AC format.
East Valley Institute of Technology has launched 88.7 KPNG Chandler, AZ as Dance CHR “Pulse 88.7” as the format moves from its previous frequencies. The high school station had been heard on 90.7 KVIT Apache Junction and 92.7 K224CJ Phoenix giving it nearly full coverage of Phoenix. The new Class C3 signal is located south of the market, but on a clear enough signal to be heard in more populated areas (Coverage Map). EVIT paid Arizona Community Media Foundation $700,000 for KPNG. 92.7 K224CJ will soon shift to rebroadcasting an HD subchannel of Hubbard’s “Alt AZ 93.3” KDKB Mesa. 90.7 KVIT is owned by EVIT. No word if its long term plan is to simulcast KPNG or other as the school is only promoting the new 88.7 signal now as the home of the Pulse format.

The station joins “C89.5” KNHC Seattle in the realm of high school stations programming a Dance format. KVIT launched in January 2011 and added the 92.7 translator giving it coverage of Phoenix proper in May 2012. The student run programming will also extend online. East Valley Institue of Technology CHR “90.7 The Goldmine” KVIT Apache Junction, AZ will be expanding its coverage in the Phoenix market. The High School owned station is teasing on its website that it will add a second transmitter from the South Mountain tower farm targeting downtown Phoenix on May 1. While no station was identified, multiple signs indicate 92.7 K224CJ will be the second signal for the station. 92.7 has rebroadcast Sierra H’s “101.1 The Beat” KNRJ for the past few years.
