Last month Akron Public Schools AAA “The Summit” 91.3 WAPS Akron/90.7 WKTL Struthers/Youngstown OH launched a brand extension focused on local artists and musicians with a connection to the station’s Northeast Ohio base. Available on streaming platforms and WAPS-HD2, “The 330” named after the area code of the market is the perfect example of the types of ancillary products radio can launch to expand its digital reach. Curtis Media Group’s Eastern Airwaves has acquired a pair of translator CP’s in North Carolina. From Community Public Radio, Eastern Airwaves added 97.7 W249CN Fairfield, NC for $125,000. The 250 watt translator will put a city grade signal over Greensboro where it will be used to rebroadcast Curtis’ “Triad Sports” 1320 WCOG. From Bible Broadcasting Network, Eastern Airwaves acquired 94.3 W232CI Fayetteville for $47,500. The 30 watt translator is currently licensed to rebroadcast Bible Broadcasting’s 91.1 WYBH Fayetteville. Saga Communications has purchased 96.7 W244CZ Ithaca, NY from Calvary Chapel Of The Finger Lakes for $60,000. The 250 watt translator will rebroadcast an HD subchannel of 103.7 WQNY Ithaca.
