FCC Report 7/1: Translator Auction 83 Brings New Signals To Raleigh, Austin & 28 Others

The 2003 translator filing window has finally come to a close as the FCC completed Auction 83 netting $576,520 for thirty licenses. The highest winning bid went to Curtis Media's Carolina Radio Group as it outbid iHeartMedia for 92.9 in Raleigh NC for $301,000. iHeart did not go away empty handed though as it was the winning bidder for 95.9 Eden NC, 104.7 Florence AL, 102.7 Panama City FL, and the second highest winning bid of $92,000 for 97.3 Westfield/Springfield MA. Other winning bids of note were $48,000 for 107.9 Greenacres/Austin TX by Juan Alberto Ayala, $21,000 by Vermont Public Radio for 107.5 Burlington VT, $16,000 by University of Northwestern-St. Paul for 104.3 Dubuque IA, and $14,000 by Juan Alberto Ayala for 100.3 Muscatel/Fresno CA. Big 98.3 Indianapolis Debuts

iHeartMedia launched Country “Big 98.3” WUBG Plainfield/Indianapolis at 4:00pm today. WUBG becomes the third Country station in Indianapolis joining Cumulus’ 95.5 WFMS and Emmis’ “97.1 Hank-FM” WLHK. The soon-to-be former Radio Disney owned stations will feature two on-air hosts based at iHeartMedia’s “Big 104.7” WPGB Pittsburgh. Bob Delmont is listed from 10am to 3pm and Carson from 3-8pm. Radio Disney Sells Three

Update 12/8: When Salem returns 99.5 KDIS-FM Little Rock to the air, it will do so as Christian Preaching “Faith Talk 99.5” KSLR-FM. FaithTalk995.com, FaithTalkLittleRock.com, and KSLRFM.com were all registered by Salem on Friday. While awaiting FCC approval for the purchase of the station, Salem has also applied to boost the station’s facilities. KDIS-FM has applied to upgrade its Class A signal from 3kW at 95 meters to 6kW, while retaining the same tower height and location. Update 10/30: Disney has announced buyers for three of the now dark stations. 99.5 KDIS-FM Little Rock and 1160 KRDY San Antonio have been sold to Salem Communications for $2 Million.
