A Shore Change For 92.1 The Lake

As expected Magnum Media rebranded 92.1 WVTY Racine from “The Lake” to “The Shore” this morning. The Variety Hits format that launched last month stays in place with the name change. As reported since the format change last month, the “Lake” name was still being kept active by previous user Scripps and this ends the dispute between the two companies over the use of the intellectual property. No word if there was any financial settlement over the use. The following memo was sent out by owner Dave Magnum to staffers regarding the name change: I’m pleased to report that we have completed the necessary steps and our nickname will change at midnight to “92.1 THE SHORE.” Our new website address will be 921theshore.com. We’ve been weaving in “shore” references ...[Read More]

Lake Quickly Returns To Wisconsin

Hours after Scripps flipped Variety Hits “94.5 The Lake” WLWK-FM Milwaukee to “KTI Country“, Magnum Communications has quickly resurrected the brand and format in portions of the market. Country “Q92.1” WMKQ Racine became “92.1 The Lake” this afternoon. The move takes WMKQ from being a fringe player in the battle between WKTI and iHeartMedia’s 106.1 WMIL to having a niche format to themselves. WMKQ itself had only flipped to Country last December after a long run as AC WEZY. WMKQ covers the southern portions of the Milwaukee market from the city to the Illinois state line. 92.1 The Lake is all about the variety – with songs ranging from today’s favorites like Bruno Mars and Katy Perry, to your all-time favorites from the 80&...[Read More]

WEZY Flips To Country

Magnum Broadcasting has flipped AC “Lite Rock 92.1” WEZY Racine, WI to Country “Q92.1“. Targeting the southern suburbs of Milwaukee, the station has applied for new WMKQ call letters. Q92.1 will pair with sister 92.5 WBWI West Bend, which covers the northern portions of the Milwaukee market, to give a competitor to iHeartMedia’s market leading 106.1 WMIL. Magnum acquired WEZY and WBWI along with their AM sister stations from Bliss Communications earlier this year.

Magnum Expands Into Milwaukee Suburbs

David Magnum’s Magnum Broadcasting has announced the acquisition of four stations in suburban Milwaukee from subsidiaries of Bliss Communications. Magnum will be acquiring AC “Lite Rock 92.1” WEZY Racine and News/Talk 1440 WRJN Racine from Bliss’ Racine Broadcasting and Country 92.5 WBWI-FM West Bend and News/Talk 1470 WBKV West Bend from West Bend Broadcasting according to the Janesville Gazette. Terms of the sale have yet to be disclosed. Magnum currently owns 12 stations and two LPTV’s in Wisconsin along with an LPTV in Minnesota. Following the sale Bliss will retain the Janesville Gazette along with 1230 WCVL and Country 99.9 WJVL in Janesville.
