Radio-One has inserted the Rickey Smiley Morning Show on their Hip-Hop stations in four more markets. Smiley adds clearances at “92.7 The Block” WQNC Charlotte, “101.1 The Wiz” WIZF Cincinnati, “Hot 96.3” WHHH Indianapolis, and “K97.5” WQOK Raleigh. WQNC had been jockless in mornings since its launch last summer, while the other three stations drop Russ Parr. Smiley had been airing in Charlotte on Core Communicator’s “Streetz 103.3” 1370 WGIV/W277CB until the end of 2015. Both Parr and Smiley are syndicated by Radio-One’s Reach Media. Smiley now airs on eleven Radio-One owned stations, while Parr will only be on Urban AC “Majic 102.3” WMMJ Washington DC after his move from sister 93.9 WKYS earlier this mont...[Read More]
The weekend of stunting with nothing but Drake on 92.7 WQNC Harrisburg/Charlotte, NC gave way at 5:00pm today to Urban “92.7 The Block“. Taking direct aim at Beasley Media’s “Power 98” WPEG, the new format is promoting itself as “Non-Stop Hip-Hop and R&B” and being commercial-free. First song was Lil Wayne’s “The Block Is Hot”. Original Report 8/14: Radio-One has broken its simulcast of Gospel “Praise 92.7/100.9” in Charlotte. 92.7 WPZS Harrisburg, NC has dropped the Gospel format and is now stunting will all-Drake as “Drake 92.7“. Following the launch of Radio-One’s “Old School 105.3” WNOW-FM, we’ve been waiting for the next show to drop in the company’s makeover of its Charlotte cluster. At 12am this morning, Urban AC “My 92.7” WQNC gave way to a simulcast of sister Gospel “Praise 100.9” WPZS. While we expect that eventually 100.9 will slide to a new format as both stations have considerable overlap in their reach, this does appear to be a simulcast that will be around for the near term.
Radio-One took over operations of 105.3 WNOW-FM Charlotte today and launched Urban Oldies “Old School 105.3“. The station which had been airing a Regional Mexican format as “Poder 105.3” will now focus on R&B Hits of the 70s and 80s. 105.3 began stunting with construction sounds this morning before launching the new format at 5:00pm. Listen to the debut of Old School 105.3 at FormatChange.com. The company runs a similar format on 94.5 KSOC Dallas. However, it appears that this will lead to a coming change as sister Urban AC “My 92.7” WQNC. All of 92.7’s web properties have been converted for 105.3’s use with banners welcoming My 92.7 listeners. For now 92.7 continues programming as usual. Radio-One announced the purchase of WNOW-FM earli...[Read More]
Is Radio-One about to flip Urban AC “Q92.7” WQNC Charlotte, NC to Hot AC? Fresh927.com and Fresh927FM.com were registered to Radio-One last week. The renowned Urban radio operator, which has sold off the majority of its non-black targeted stations, could simply be looking to fill a more profitable format hole in the market, which hasn’t had a Hot AC since 107.9 WLNK shifted completely to Talk.
