WMVY To Return To Martha’s Vineyard

The AAA format of WMVY will return to Martha’s Vineyard, MA in early 2014. After selling their 92.7 signal to Boston University in late 2012 and becoming a listener supported webcaster, the management of the station have acquired a new signal for the station. Friends of MVYRadio, LLC has agreed to acquire 88.7 WMEX Edgartown, MA from Vineyard Public Radio for $450,000. WMEX is currently licensed with 250 watts at 66 meters with a Construction Permit to increase to 420 watts at 92 meters. Part of the sale agreement will have MVYRadio apply to modify that CP to another tower site in Tisbury, MA. The station hopes to be back on the air by the Spring of 2014. WBUR Boston Expands To Martha’s Vineyard With WMVY Purchase

Boston University’s NPR News/Talk 90.9 WBUR-FM Boston has announced it will acquire AAA 92.7 WMVY Tisdale to expand its reach onto Martha’s Vineyard. The acquisition of WMVY from Aritaur Communications helps fill the signal void between the primary 90.9 signal in Boston and 1240 WBUR West Yarmouth which covers portions of Cape Cod. The programming change will take place in early 2013 following FCC approval of the sale. Following the sale, the MVYRadio programming will continue online as a listener supported webcaster if it can raise $600,000 by the end of January. At that time the programming, equipment and staff of the station will be transferred to a non-profit Friends of mvyradio.
