Atlanta Falcons Complete Move To 92.9 The Game

The NFL’s Atlanta Falcons will have a new flagship station in 2015 as game broadcasts will be heard exclusively on CBS Sports “92.9 The Game” WZGC Atlanta. The Falcons have signed a multi-year agreement to make WZGC the exclusive radio home of all Falcons game broadcasts. WZGC replaced Lincoln Financial Media Hot AC “Star 94” WSTR as the FM home of Falcons game broadcasts just prior to the start of last season, while their “ESPN 790 The Zone” WQXI remained as the official flagship. Atlanta Falcons Move FM Broadcasts To 92.9 The Game

In a move that usually doesn’t happen so close to the start of a season, the Atlanta Falcons will have a new FM home for the games in 2014. CBS Sports “92.9 The Game” WZGC will replace Lincoln Financial Media Hot AC “Star 94” WSTR as the FM home for the team’s broadcasts starting with the team’s third preseason game on Saturday, August 23. Broadcasts will continue to originate at Lincoln Financial’s “ESPN 790 The Zone” WQXI. The move follows WQXI dropping all local programming in favor of the national ESPN Radio lineup in May. The move will attempt to help reverse the fortunes for WZGC, which has yet to show much growth since its debut in October 2012. Former Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Kordell Stewart has departed his slot as co-host of CBS Sports “92.9 The Game” WZGC Atlanta. Stewart had been with the station since its launch in October 2012. Update 10/24: WZGC made its long expected flip to Sports at 2pm today. The station is emphasizing itself as Atlanta’s only Sports station that is live & local 24/7. In addition to the daytime lineup announced earlier, the rest of WZGC’s airstaff will consist of the previously announced Jason Goff paired with Mac McDonald from 6 to 10pm, “Big” Jim Murray most recently of sister WBZ-FM Boston from 10pm to 2am, and Dave-FM holdover Mitch Evans from 2am to 6am. CBS Names Its Atlanta FM Sports Outlet

While we await the official launch date of CBS’ FM Sports launch at WZGC Atlanta, we now know the station will be branded as “92.9 The Game“. Following up on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Rodney Ho’s report that it would be “the likely name”, we can confirm that it will indeed be the brand name. A Twitter account has gone live at @929TheGame with the logo seen here. CBS has registered multiple Sports related domains over the past two months including 929TheGame.com and 929FMTheGame.com. CBS To Launch FM Sports In Atlanta

CBS will flip AAA “92.9 Dave-FM” WZGC Atlanta to Sports this fall. As first reported by Rodney Ho of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, station GM Rick Caffrey told the station’s staffers that the move will occur in late September or early October. Terry Foxx, PD of sister “93.7 The Fan” KDKA-FM Pittsburgh has been named PD for the Atlanta station. The new format will put the station in direct competition with Dickey Brothers’ “680 The Fan” WCNN/93.7 W229AG and Lincoln Financial Media’s “790 The Zone” WQXI.
