Radio-One Adds Two In Columbus; Magic Moves & Joy To Return

Radio-One is purchasing Wilks Broadcasting’s two remaining Columbus, OH stations for $2 million. What were Sports “95.5 The Game” WZOH-FM Lancaster and Classic Country “K107.1” WHOK-FM Circleville will join a Radio-One cluster that includes Urban AC “Magic 106.3” WXMG London and Urban “Power 107.5” WCKX Columbus. Wilks sold their other Columbus station, Classic Rock “QFM 96” 96.3 WLVQ to Saga earlier this month. Radio-One began operating both stations at 12am this morning and begun making programming changes. Update 4/1: Wilks has completed its Columbus restructuring. Country “K95” WHOK-FM has slid down to 107.1 where it has flipped to Classic Country “K95 at 107.1” keeping the former brand alive. 95.5 takes on the long expected Sports format as “95.5 The Game” utilizing the CBS Sports Radio network. Update 3/29: Add another possible brand for 95.5 as Wilks has added a registration for 955TheZone.com. Wilks has applied for new WZOH-FM call letters for the station. K95.5 Returns To Columbus

Wilks Broadcasting Classic Country “95.5 The Hawk” WHOK-FM Columbus, OH will revert to its former “K95.5” moniker on Monday, January 16. Along with the name change the station will revamp its music in a more mainstream direction. Afternoon host Jocephus will shift to mornings where he will be paired with Lex McAlister. Current morning co-host/middayer Miss Lisa will slide to a daypart to be announced. WHOK used the K95.5 moniker until January 2007, when Wilks acquired the station from CBS. The station is the second ranked of four Country stations in the Columbus market with a 3.0 share in December.
