The new show will air from 6-9pm replacing the syndicated Todd Schnitt, who will continue to air on sister 1250 WHNZ from 3-6pm. Gorman, who had a long run in music radio including afternoon host at 97.9 WFKS Jacksonville and 103.5 WKSC Chicago and morning co-host at 95.7 WKSS Hartford, had been working for WFLA as a weekend and podcast host. Tedd Webb will retire from his position as co-host of iHeartMedia News/Talk 970 WFLA Tampa/102.9 W275AZ Wesley Chapel South at the end of January 2018. Webb has been with WFLA since 1983 and has co-hosted “AM Tampa Bay” with Jack Harris since 1994. Harris and producer Aaron Jacobson will continue to host the show upon Webb’s exit. Webb began his radio career in 1963 and has spent the majority of his career working in his hometown. The Tampa Bay Times reports that Webb intends to keep co-hosting “The Opening Bell” on sister 1250 WHNZ if physically able. Webb was off the air for a few weeks in August after suffering a second heart attack.
iHeartMedia News/Talk 970 WFLA Tampa is now being heard on 102.9 W275AZ Wesley Chapel South FL bringing the station to FM in Tampa proper. W275AZ joins 96.7 W244BE Brandon covering the New Port Richey area in airing WFLA’s programming on FM. W275AZ had been carrying the Classic Hip-Hop “Throwback Tampa Bay” along with 94.5 W233AV Gulfport and 105.9 W290BJ West Tampa. 102.9 and 105.9’s signals overlapped making it redundant to keep in the trimulcast. Chief Engineer John McMartin discussed the launch of W275AZ on WFLA’s morning show.

Clear Channel News/Talk 970 WFLA Tampa has added the first of its two planned FM translators. 105.9 W237DI (Calls Soon To Change To Match New Frequency) West Tampa has signed on bringing the AM station to FM in Hillsborough County including the city of Tampa itself. The 250 watt translator is owned by Radio Training Network, whose “JoyFM” will use an HD subchannel of Clear Channel’s 95.7 WBTP to feed some of its translators in the Tampa Bay area. WFLA will soon add a second translator to serve St. Petersburg and Pinellas County. Reach Communication’s 94.5 W233AV Gulfport has a construction permit to upgrade to 250 watts with WFLA as its station of origination.
Following the shutdown of Martz Communication’s pair of HD fed translators, the company has begun selling off its properties in the market. 97.5 W248AQ Harrison MI has been sold to Salem Communications for $250,000 who will use it to rebroadcast Conservative Talk “1400 The Patriot” WDTK. Martz had purchased the translator last fall for $32,000 and had gained a CP to move it to 92.7 with 250 watts. Following the debut of “ESPN Deportes Chicago” 97.5 W248AO, EMF will be pairing with Clear Channel to launch a second translator in the city. 96.7 W244BQ Park Ridge has applied to operate with 85 watts at 1181 feet with a directional antenna pointed northwest away from WSSR Joliet.
