Most of the applications of note this week were in regards to translators seeking upgrades. Apex Broadcasting is seeking an upgrade of Variety Hits “SC 103.1” WVSC Parris Island, SC from a Class C3 with 11kW at 114.9 meters to a C2 with 50kW at 150 meters. The application also requests the city of license change to Port Royal as Parris Island was absorbed into Port Royal in 2002. After completing its move from 106.5 in Clinton, MO to 106.9 Harrisonville, MO, K295CH seeks to move again to Kansas City where it will operate with 250 watts at 281 meters. The translator would rebroadcast Union Broadcasting’s Sports/Talk “ESPN 1510” KCTE Independence. As the FCC prepares to clear out the frozen 2003 Translator applications and open up the LPFM filing window later this year, many existing translators are hurrying to get their upgrades into the system. The past two weeks have been filled with dozens of upgrades applications. Starting in New York where 106.3 W292DV is trying once again to get relocated into the city. After discarding its hopes to operate in the city last year following interference claims the translator was unable to build out its CP on the Queens/Nassau county border. The translator has now applied for an STA to return to Long Island City, Queens with 4 watts to keep the license alive.
