Alpha Media has relaunched Rhythmic CHR “99.3 The Vibe” WVBX Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg VA as “Live 99.3“. No other changes accompanied the relaunch as the station’s lineup continues to feature the syndicated Brooke & Jubal in mornings, DJ 2Much in afternoons, and JJ in nights.

When Sandton Capital acquired the assets of the Free-Lance Star Publishing Company out of bankruptcy in May, the group lost its grandfathered ability to hold both newspaper and broadcast properties in the same market. The company owns the epnomynous Free-Lance Star newspaper in Fredericksburg along with a radio group including Country 93.3 WFLS, Classic Rock “96.9 The Rock” WWUZ, Rhythmic CHR “99.3 The Vibe” WVBX, and Talk/Sports 1350 WNTX/96.5 W243BS. Sandton applied for a waiver to continue the cross-ownership until the FCC acts on a proposal in the pending 2014 Quadrennial Review to eliminate the newspaper/radio cross-ownership ban permanently. Update 5/22: Sandton Capital Partners has acquired the holdings of the Free-Lance Star Publishing Company out of bankruptcy court for $30.2 million. Sandton had purchased a loan last summer that made them the primary creditor of the company, owed $38 million. Free-Lance Star owns Country 93.3 WFLS, Classic Rock “96.9 The Rock” WWUZ, Rhythmic CHR “99.3 The Vibe” WVBX, and Talk/Sports 1350 WNTX/96.5 W243BS in addition to the Free-Lance Star newspaper, Fredericksburg.com, a printing company, and real estate in the Fredericksburg market. Free Lance Star’s 99.3 WYSK-FM Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg, VA dropped its Modern Rock format at noon today for Rhythmic CHR as “99.3 The Vibe”. OM Paul Johnson described The Vibe as â€œA blend of contemporary Urban, Rythmic, and Top 40. Our tag line is Fredericksburgâ€™s New #1 Hit Music Station.â€ The station will be a blend of current format heavyweights like Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Kanye West, and Sean Kingston, along with liberal doses of 80â€™s and 90â€™s dance, and even some 70â€™s Old School. The station has applied for the call letters WWVB. â€œFredericksburg has no real CHR station, and no stations for the Urban audience,â€ Johnson explained. â€œWeâ€™re excited about tapping into an audience that is grossly underserved.â€ More at VARTV.com
