Kenny Jay Moves To US 99 Chicago As Program Director

Entercom Country “US 99” 99.5 WUSN Chicago has appointed Kenny Jay as Program Director. Jay transfers from Seattle where he programmed Country 94.1 KMPS until its flip to Soft AC in late 2017. Prior to moving to KMPS in January 2016, Jay served as APD and later PD at CBS Radio’s “Buz’n 102.9” KMNB Minneapolis. Jimmy deCastro To Head Entercom Chicago

Former Evergreen Media & AMFM Inc. CEO Jimmy deCastro has been appointed as Senior Vice President/Market Manager of Entercom Chicago upon closing of the acquisition of CBS Radio by Entercom. DeCastro first came to Chicago in 1981 to be GM of 97.9 WLUP. He would later purchase the station as part of Evergreen Media, which would later merge with Chancellor Broadcasting to form AMFM. While President of AMFM, the company was bought and merged into Clear Channel in 2000. He has since served as President of AOL Interactive and in 2007 founded The Content Factory, which launched the Dan Patrick Show into syndication before being sold to DirecTV, and then as President/GM of Tribune’s 720 WGN Chicago from 2013-2016. Todd Cavanah Adds WUSN Programming Duties

CBS Radio Country “US 99.5” WUSN Chicago has given VP of Programming Todd Cavanah the programming reins. Cavanah succeeds Jeff Kapugi, who exited at the expiration of his contract in December. He has worked for CBS Chicago since 1990 and programmed CHR “B96” 96.3 WBBM-FM since 1993. Cavanah was promoted to VP of Programming for CBS Radio Chicago in April 2016 adding oversight of all of the stations in the market. With the addition of day-to-day programming duties at WUSN, Cavanah will drop those at Classic Hits “104.3 K-Hits” WJMK but continue to also program WBBM-FM. Robert Feder reports that the company will hire a day-to-day programmer to oversee WJMK and AAA 93.1 WXRT.

Jeff Kapugi Exits CBS Radio

Jeff Kapugi has exited his position as CBS Radio Vice President of Country Programming and Program Director of “US 99” WUSN Chicago after five years. WUSN has been in a heated battle with iHeartMedia’s “Big 95.5” WEBG in recent years. Both stations are on a ratings downswing with WUSN leading WEBG by a 2.2 to 2.0 share in the November ratings. As recent as September WUSN led 2.8 to 2.7. The Chicago native joined WUSN in 2011 following a year overseeing CBS’ Hot AC “Y98” KYKY and AC 102.5 KEZK St. Louis. CBS Country “US 99” 99.5 WUSN Chicago has named ‘Dougie Stylz’ Bobrowski and Justin Roman as their new morning show. The pair move over from sister CHR “B96” WBBM-FM where they were most recently hosting afternoons. They will replace Lisa Dent and Ramblin’ Ray Stevens. The latter jumped to Cumulus News/Talk 890 WLS last week leading to Dent’s exit. ‘Ramblin Ray’ Stevens Jumps To WLS Mornings; Rest Of WUSN Morning Team Let Go

‘Ramblin Ray’ Stevens is exiting CBS Country “US 99.5” WUSN Chicago after 26 years to join Cumulus News/Talk 890 WLS starting Monday, August 8. Stevens will join his former WUSN partner ‘Big John’ Howell on the WLS morning show. The duo were paired together from 2002 through 2006 at the Country station. He has been in the morning slot with various co-hosts since 1994 and with Lisa Dent since Howell’s departure in 2006. With Stevens jumping to WLS, WUSN has let go of the rest of its morning team as Lisa Dent and producer Katherine Kelly exit. Reese, who will just use his last name on-air, joins WTMX from CBS Country “US 99.5” WUSN Chicago where he was most recently Executive Producer of the Lisa & Ray morning show. Robert Feder reports that AAA 93.1 WXRT night host Tom Marker has had his position elimnated after 33 years at the station. At sister Country 99.5 WUSN, midday host Trish Biondo didn’t have her contract renewed after 27 years at the station. At Alternative “Live 105” KITS San Francisco, Steve Masters is out of mornings after just 9 months. And in Washington, Hot AC “94.7 Fresh-FM” WIAD loses middayer Kristie McIntyre. While attention was made to Clear Channel’s wide-scale layoffs on December 6, it seems that CBS has quietly been making staff cuts as well. Update 1/2: A few more cuts have become public since our first report: Dallas – AC “103.7 Lite-FM” KVIL morning team Gene & Julie did not have their contracts renewed. Middayer Tony Zazza replaces them. New York – WCBS-FM APD Lenny Bloch departs. His voicetracked overnight shift was replaced with a live shift hosted by Dave Stewart, formerly of 95.5 WPLJ.
