Scripps Media Classic Rock “Rock 105.1” KJOT Boise has returned to its heritage “J105” identity. KJOT was known as “J105” from 1985 until 2010 when it broaden its playlist to include music from the 1970s through 2000s as “Variety Rock 105.1“. The station then streamlined its music back to a typical 70s-90s Classic Rock mix in 2014 as “Rock 105.1” but retained its jockless presentation. The “J105” brand relaunch is paired with a return to a hosted presentation. The first personality to return is Carl ‘CB’ Ballance, who had been serving as morning traffic reporter for Scripps’ Boise radio and television stations. CB will host middays at KJOT following a brief run in mornings.
With the asset swap made this week by Impact Radio Group and Radio Rancho, a pair of formats have moved to new frequencies. Sports “ESPN Boise” has moved from 730 KNFL/96.5 K243BM Boise to 99.1 K256CZ Boise/101.9 KQBL-HD2 Emmett. The swap places the format on a stronger FM signal as it moves from the 99 watt/805m K256CZ to 250w/805m. 730 KNFL is currently running a loop redirecting listeners to the new 99.1 frequency for the format. With 96.5 vacant, Alternative “92.7 The Alternative” K224EP Boise/KQBL-HD2 has moved to that translator as “96.5 The Alternative“. Impact is acquiring 99.1 K256CZ and $35,000 from Radio Rancho for 730 KNFL, 92.7 K224EP, and the Construction Permit for 106.7 K294DC (which will rebroadcast 730).
Station Sales Impact Radio Group will swap Sports “ESPN Boise” 730 KNFL Boise ID, 92.7 K224EP Boise, and the CP for 106.7 K294DC Boise to Kevin Terry’s Radio Rancho LLC. for 99.1 K256CZ Boise and $35,000. Radio Rancho owns two other FM’s in the Boise market, while Impact will own 1 AM, 4 FMS, and 3 translators in the market upon closing of this deal. The current formats will not be involved in the deal. Radio Rancho is also selling 95.7 KMGR Gunnison UT to Sanpete County Broadcasting for $50,000. The seller has a pending deal to acquire KMGR from Broadway Media’s SLC Divestiture Trust in exchange for two translators. Idaho Wireless Corporation Country 93.7 KZBQ Pocatello ID has moved to 93.9 as the first part of a multi-station move to bring another station into the Boise market. KZBQ drops from a Class C to C0 with 100kW/308m with the frequency shift. The next step will see Lee Family Broadcasting Hot AC “Hot 100” 99.9 KZDX Burley/Twin Falls move to 93.5 from its current 27kW/747m antenna. The final move will see Cochise Media Licenses 99.9 KXML Salmon upgrade from a Class A to Class C with 40kW/708m where it will serve the eastern part of the Boise market. The changes were part of the larger Docket 05-243 order making changes to dozens of licenses in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming released in 2008.
