Two years after being donated and relaunching 99.9 WDRK Cornell WI, University Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation has rebranded its student-run AAA “Blugold Radio“. Now branding as “Converge Radio“, the station was originally planning to rebrand as “Verge Radio”, but tweaked after some public feedback stating “it was not quite as descriptive of who we are as we’d like”. The name change was conceived to “better reflect a connection with local communities” and not just the student population.
Midwest Family Broadcasting has flipped “Oldies 1150” WEAQ Chippewa Falls/Eau Claire WI to Rhythmic CHR “95.9 Jamz” with the launch of 95.9 W240DC Chippewa Falls. Running jockless, the station is promoting itself as “non-stop music without all the talk” with core artists including Bruno Mars, Drake, The Weeknd, Rihanna, The Chainsmokers, and Ariana Grande. The new Jamz format will flank sister Hot AC “I94” 94.1 WIAL against iHeartMedia CHR “Z100” 100.7 WBIZ-FM. It will also intend to protect Midwest Family Country 104.5 WAXX‘s overall market lead against second ranked WBIZ-FM.
Beasley Media's "Interference Complaint" against 100.1 WVVF-LP Town N' Country/Tampa FL filed in July 2015 for operating as a de-facto commercial station by running a Spanish Classic Hits format and not the "educational" programming it claimed in its application was dismissed by the FCC. The FCC struck down Beasley's argument that WVVF-LP "through a predominantly music format, has failed to advance an educational program" as "The Commission has previously accepted all-music formats as advancing an educational program". "Viva 100.1" did not get off the hook completely as it entered into a Consent Decree and $2000 fine for violating the Underwriting Announcement Rule on at least one occasion.
iHeartMedia flipped Sports 1400 WBIZ Eau Claire WI to Classic Hits “98.7 The Brew” this afternoon. The flip comes with the addition of translator 98.7 W254CN Eau Claire to bring WBIZ’s programming to FM. While positioning as Classic Hits, the programming skews towards Classic Rock of the 1970s and 80s, much like iHeart’s other Brew branded stations. The new format takes aim at Midwest Family Broadcasting’s “Greatest Hits 98.1” WISM-FM, which was recently upgraded to a stronger signal thanks to the acquisition of WISM-FM from iHeartMedia’s Aloha Stations Trust. WBIZ previously carried Fox Sports Radio programming along with WTSO Madison’s regionally syndicated Mike Heller show in afternoons.
Midwest Family Broadcasting has closed on its acquisition of Hot AC “Mix 98.1” WISM-FM Altoon/Eau Claire WI from iHeartMedia’s Aloha Stations Trust and donation of 99.9 WDRK Cornell to University Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation. The Classic Hits “Greatest Hits 99.9” programming moves to WISM-FM as “Greatest Hits 98.1” giving it a better signal in Eau Claire proper. UW-Eau Claire launched student-run “Blugold Radio” with some programming from Wisconsin Public Radio’s News & Classical Music network.
Midwest Family Broadcasting is purchasing Hot AC “Mix 98.1” WISM-FM Altoona/Eau Claire WI from iHeartMedia’s Aloha Stations Trust for $970,000. In order to stay under the ownership limits in the Eau Claire market, Midwest Family is concurrently donating Classic Hits “Greatest Hits 99.9” WDRK Cornell to University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation’s BluGold Radio LLC. The donee will convert WDRK to non-commercial status upon closing of the deal. Midwest Family intends to move WDRK’s current Classic Hits format to 98.1 when the deals close. That move will take WISM-FM out of direct format competition with soon-to-be sister “I94” 94.1 WIAL. The 99.9 signal will be utilized to carry some of Wisconsin Public Radio’s News and Classical...[Read More]
