Alpha Media has relaunched Rhythmic CHR “99.3 The Vibe” WVBX Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg VA as “Live 99.3“. No other changes accompanied the relaunch as the station’s lineup continues to feature the syndicated Brooke & Jubal in mornings, DJ 2Much in afternoons, and JJ in nights.

Vincent Klepac’s Seaford Media is selling his two stations to separate buyers. Greg Bojko and A. Wray Fitch’s GSB Broadcasting will purchase “101.1 Jack-FM” WSUX-FM Snow Hill/Salisbury MD for $262,500 to join a cluster that includes Variety Hits “96.5 CTG” WCTG Chincoteague VA and Classic Country “Wow 101.5/87.7” WOWZ-FM Chincoteague and WOWZ-LP Salisbury. GSB also has begun operating “Shore Country 99.3” WVES Accomac VA and is currently simulcasting WOWZ as it plans to relaunch the station in November. Alpha Media Expands Into Fredericksburg

Alpha Media will pay $8.1 million for the Free-Lance Star stations in Fredericksburg. Sandton Capital Given One Year To End Fredericksburg Crossownership

When Sandton Capital acquired the assets of the Free-Lance Star Publishing Company out of bankruptcy in May, the group lost its grandfathered ability to hold both newspaper and broadcast properties in the same market. The company owns the epnomynous Free-Lance Star newspaper in Fredericksburg along with a radio group including Country 93.3 WFLS, Classic Rock “96.9 The Rock” WWUZ, Rhythmic CHR “99.3 The Vibe” WVBX, and Talk/Sports 1350 WNTX/96.5 W243BS. WAMU Expands To Fredericksburg

American University’s Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU Washington, DC is expanding southward into the adjacent Fredericksburg, VA market. The school is purchasing 89.5 WWED Spotsylvania, VA and its booster in Fredericksburg from Educational Media Corporation for $375,000. American University also owns 88.3 WRAU Ocean City, MD and translators in Frederick and Hagerstown that rebroadcast WAMU. WWED and its sister 91.7 WWEM Rustburg/Lynchburg most recently aired a Classical format billed as “Classics Radio“. The stations went dark last July when the format transitioned to an online operation. WWEM is being sold to Pathway Christian Academy for $136,000. Sandton Capital Acquires Free-Lance Star Assets

Update 5/22: Sandton Capital Partners has acquired the holdings of the Free-Lance Star Publishing Company out of bankruptcy court for $30.2 million. Sandton had purchased a loan last summer that made them the primary creditor of the company, owed $38 million. Two Virginia Classical Stations To Sign Off

89.5 WWED Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg and 91.7 WWEM Rustburg/Lynchburg, VA will cease broadcasting by the end of the month. The two stations, which simulcast a Classical music format as “Classics Radio“, will keep their programming running online only. General manager Pete Stover of Educational Media Corporation told the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star that the stations did not have enough financial support. The two stations have run through many formats in their short lives. Since first signing-on in 2005, WWED has gone through phases as Christian Preaching, Southern Gospel, Bluegrass, Christian AC, and since February 2012 Classical. WWEM launched as a full simulcast of WWED in 2007.

Fredericksburg Newspaper Launches Eclectic FM

The Free Lance-Star Publishing Company has launched a new Eclectic music station in Fredericksburg, VA. 96.5 W243BS has dropped its simulcast of News/Talk 1350 WNTX for the new format branded as “Fred-FM” being fed by the HD subchannel of 93.3 WFLS. The Free Lance-Star describes the new format as “an eclectic blend of music geared to in-office listening during the day, and highlighting a different type of music each evening. Programming will include the blues on Mondays, honky-tonk on Tuesdays and jazz on Saturdays.” The station will be branded as an extension of the newspaper’s with programming featuring local musicians, news, and events. WFVA Fredericksburg Returning To Talk

Centennial Broadcasting is flipping Standards 1230 WFVA Fredericksburg, VA back to Conservative Talk on Monday, January 28. The station had dropped its previous Talk format in April 2011 for the current Adult Standards programming distributed by Dial Global. The new talk lineup will include America In The Morning, Don Imus, Glenn Beck, Mike Huckabee, Dennis Miller, Mark Levin, Michael Savage, and George Noory. Station News Director Ted Schubel will host a local program daily from 8 to 9am. In addition to WFVA, Centennial owns Hot AC “B101.5” WBQB in the Fredericksburg market.

This past week has seen a lot of moves for translators with Clear Channel making moves to add new programming options in two major markets. In Minneapolis/St. Paul, Clear Channel is teaming with EMF Broadcasting to bring two translators to the top of the IDS Center in Minneapolis. reports 93.3 W227BF Shoreview, MN will upgrade from 10 to 99 watts and rebroadcast 97.1 KTCZ-HD2, while 102.5 K273BH Fridley, MN will jump from 41 to 250 watts rebroadcasting 101.3 KDWB-HD2. Clear Channel purchased 103.5 K278BP Cottage Grove, MN from EMF last year. It is used to rebroadcast Sports 1130 KFAN via 100.3 KTLK-HD2. Clear Channel and EMF are also working in tandem in Detroit.
