Memphis First Ventures’ Mighty Media Group has sold Country “95.3 The Rebel” WEBL Coldwater MS/Memphis TN and the lease of 100.1 W261CE Southaven to Thomas Freeman’s North Mississippi Radio Group for $900,000. Freeman is already quite familiar with the station as he has served as Program Director and then General Manager since November 2009. He previously served as Operations Manager for Cumulus Topeka KS, The Radio People Jackson MS, and Clear Channel Tupelo MS. Mighty Media sold 830 WUMY/105.5 W288BJ Memphis to GMF-Christian Media in May for $706,823. After 12 years as PD and evening “Love Songs” host, Earle Augustus has exited Cumulus Urban AC 103.5 WRBO Memphis. Augustus had worked at the now Cumulus cluster since 1994 with stints at “Star 98.1” WSRR and “Smooth Jazz 98.9” WJZN surrounding two tours at WRBO. Entercom is shaking up mornings at two of its stations in Memphis. Ron Olson will depart Hot AC “FM 100” 99.7 WMC-FM and move to sister AC “104.5 The River” WRVR where he will be paired with former co-host Karen Perrin starting in January 2018. Olson joined WMC-FM in 1983 partnered with Steve Conley with Perrin joining them from 1993 through 2008. Perrin then hosted mornings for four years on defunct sister Classic Hits 94.1 WKQK. She is currently co-hosting mornings at iHeartMedia News/Talk 600 WREC. They will fill the opening created by the exit of Mike Montana and Mandy Morgan last month. WMC-FM is now on the hunt for a new morning show.
As the station prepared to celebrate its 40th anniversary this month, iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Rock 103” 102.7 WEGR Arlington TN/Memphis has rebranded as “Rock 102.7“. The move comes with the addition of the “Hooker & Brooke” morning show from sister “Rock 106.7” KAAZ Salt Lake City. They fill the opening created by the breakup of the “Ditch & Jake” show over the summer with Ditch moving to afternoons and Jake exiting. The show will continue to air on KAAZ as well.
