JJ Ryan, most recently PD of sister Country “92.5 The Bull” KBEB Sacramento, is transferring to KJYO and sister Country “96.1 KXY” KXXY as Program Director. At KJYO Ryan will succeed Mike McCoy, who had been at the station as PD since 1989 and exited last week. If there’s one thing we know to expect every November most of the same stations that flipped to Christmas music last year and the year before that and the year before that will do so again this year. That is the primary reason we are no longer producing the list of all stations playing Christmas music. It is very predictable what station will play Christmas music in each market and that they will then return to their regular playlist as soon as the calendar changes to December 26. But there are still the stations that use the holiday music to clear out their previous audience and build attention for a format change after the holidays. The launch takes the place of CHR “Now 92.9“, which failed to make inroads against iHeartMedia’s “KJ 103” 102.7 KJYO in its over two years in existence. The first three songs on The Edge were Sex Pistols “God Save The Queen”, Weezer “Thank God For Girls”, and Papa Roach “Last Resort”.
