Multiple stations have found new homes in Pueblo, CO. With Educational Media Foundation closing on its acquisition of Country 106.9 KIQN Pueblo from United States CP a chain reaction of moves have taken place as KIQN has joined EMF’s Christian AC “K-Love” network. The previous Country format of KIQN has moved to 94.7 KFVR-FM Beulah and 93.9 K230BB Fowler under the management of SoCo Radio. KFVR’s previous Classic Hits “I-25 Oldies” format moves to 690 KWRP Pueblo and 100.3 K262BB Boone replacing “I-25 Talk“.
Mike Knar’s SOCO Radio is expanding its portfolio in Pueblo, CO. SOCO has agreed to begin operating United States CP’s Classic Hits “I25 Oldies” 94.7 KFVR-FM Beulah and Talk “I25 Talk” 690 KWRP Pueblo/93.9 K230BB Fowler/100.3 K262BB Boone via LMA. SOCO currently operates Soft AC “Easy 101.3” KFEZ Walsenburg, CHR “Power 103.3” Colorado City, Classic Country 780 KCEG Fountain, and Standards 890 KJME Fountain all via LMA. No word on the status of the current format have been included. KFVR-FM will lose its simulcast with 1530 KCMN Colorado Springs and KWRP will lose its simulcast with 1040 KCBR Monument/Colorado Springs as those two AMs were not included in the new lease with SOCO Radio.
With the FCC back in business we are able to resume our irregular roundup of applications from around the industry. CBS has applied to change the city of license of its “El Zol 107.9” WLZL Annapolis, MD to College Park. No facility change is connected to the application, but there could be additional ramifications. Despite the station operating in the CBS Washington cluster, Annapolis is located in the Baltimore market and WLZL currently counts towards CBS’ ownership limit in Baltimore. When CBS acquired the 107.9 facility in 2011 it had to relicense its 99.1 from Annapolis to Bowie in the Washington market to fit 107.9 in its market cap. The new format is branded as “Easy Favorites Of The 70’s, 80’s, and More” and will also featuring Smooth Jazz all day on Sundays. SoCo Radio, headed by Mike Knar formerly GM of Citadel’s Colorado Springs cluster is also operating recent Classic Country sign-on 780 KCEG in the market.
Clear Channel Active Rock “KDZA Rocks” KDZA-FM Pueblo/Colorado Springs has flipped to Classic Rock “Z107.9“. The new format being billed as “Legendary Classic Rock” is launching jockless with 10,000 songs in a row. The move shifts KDZA from direct competition with Bahakel’s 94.3 KILO to Cumulus’ 98.1 KKFM.
