Joseph_Gallant on "Once More, Indianapolis Will Have To Wait....."

Since there is no specific TV board for Indianapolis or Indiana, I'm posting this comment here.

In almost all of the country, auto-racing fans will be able to watch live coverage (for the 24th consecutive year) of Sunday's (May 24th) Indianapolis "500" auto race on ABC (green flag is expected to drop at about 1 P.M. EDT).

But according to online program listings on the website of local ABC affiliate WRTV-6, viewers in Indianapolis will have to wait until 7 P.M., when the entire ABC telecast will be shown on tape.

It's my understanding that in 1949 and 1950 (the former was the very first day of commercial television broadcasting in Indianapolis), WRTV (then WFBM) broadcast the race live. But to my knowledge, there has been no live telecast of the race in the Indianapolis area ever since.

It's my understanding that the Indianapolis Speedway's other big annual event, the Brickyard "400" stock-car race, has been televised live in Indianapolis for several years.

I personally believe that lifting the blackout won't harm the Speedway's finances; many come from far and wide to be there on that special Sunday in late May. And I think WRTV would get an 80 share were they to carry the "500" live.

Talented Personality?. He worked at his College Radio Station.

A lot of this goes on in Radio. Before the Internet they used

to do it by Phone, and Fax I suppose.

Looks like Max Power whom was just appointed PD moves the station back to a pop sound. I'm not liking it personally, but what say do I have?

Guess we Evansville Hip Hop fans now have to push for a FM again, any ideas?

I listened to one of my airchecks I made during SVR weather coverage, and I was stumbling all over myself when I heard that a policeman had spotted a touchdown on the fringe of the listening area.

That was my first time out on solo "continuous" WX. Second time (this April?) I think I did better, but I didn't get an aircheck of it.

I vote for WMRS as well.

Musically and from an news & information perspective, they do well. Its the amateur delivery used by the local announcers thats the turn off. When they're talking to listeners over the phone or conducting interviews, they seem to refrain from this delivery. Why not talk normally when they're doing regular content?

Also, any station that doesn't utilize the resources of their network announcers is missing out on the ability to make their product sound localized. Let the Jones jocks do the station ID drops before their stopsets instead of the morning guy. At least this gives the average listener the illusion the jock is in studio instead of off the bird.
