Original Report 4/14: West Virginia Radio Corp. is preparing to shift Classic Hits 107.3 WKAZ-FM Charleston, WV to Rock. The domain 1073KRock.com was registered on April 6 and is already pointing to Triton Media’s webservers. A shift to a rock based format will put the station in competition with LM Communications’ “Rock 105” WKLC-FM. Bristol Broadcasting Modern Rock “Z-Rock 94.5” WZJO segued to News/Talk in January 2010.

Update 4/20: Martz has launched the programming on its two Detroit translators exactly as we reported last month. 94.3 W232CA (The former W230BI) debuts as Modern Rock “94.3 The Bone” with programming originating at 107.5 WGPR-HD3. The new format is promising to be nothing but music without the Canadian content required by “89X” 88.7 CIMX. The station’s website includes a harsh attack on the Canadian content and the fact that the station is owned by the phone company. That being BellMedia, the former CTVglobemedia recently acquired by Bell Canada. The station is also taking potshots at Greater Media’s Rock 101.1 WRIF in sweepers. Original Report 4/5: Townsquare Media is preparing to make Billings, MT the next stop on the ever growing News/Talk to FM movement. “NewsRadio 970” KBUL Billings will be adding one or both from the tandem of 90’s Hits “Channel 95” 95.5 KCHH Worden, MT and translator 95.1 K236AB Billings as they have registered NewsRadio955.com and NewsRadio95.com. KCHH has a construction permit to move 20 miles west to Billings proper making the need for the translator simulcast moot. Just like the recent shift of WBEN Buffalo, KBUL will not be able to duplicate its calls on FM due to KBUL Reno, NV.
Rick Dees will make his return to morning radio in Los Angeles on Monday, May 4. Dees joins Clear Channel Rhythmic Oldies “Hot 92.3” KHHT replacing Victor Zaragosa who was let go earlier this week.
