Clear Channel continues its slew of programming shifts in the aftermath of its massive layoffs last week as 100.3 WVBZ Greensboro/Winston-Salem has shifted from Classic Rock “100.3 The Buzzard” to Active Rock “100.3 The Buzz“. The station is running jockless for now.

Smooth Jazz vanishes in Dayton as The Bull charges in

As we wait to see when Clear Channel drops the format in Albuquerque, Smooth Jazz disappears from the dial in Dayton, Ohio. At 5:00pm, 106.5 WDSJ became Country “106.5 The Bull“. The Smooth Jazz programming shifts to the HD2 stream of sister 99.1 WLQT as well as a four hour Sunday morning block on WLQT.

Clear Channel Flips A Pair in Albuquerque

Update 5/2/09: KABQ wasn’t the only station that flipped in Albuquerque. While 104.7 became “Classic Country 104.7” at midnight, Urban AC “Hot 95.1” KSYU flipped to Rhythmic AC as “The New 95.1”. A new domain registration 951ABQ.com hints at the KABQ calls eventually moving from 104.7 to 95.1. The music log on 95.1 is identical to that of sisters WMIA-FM Miami and WZJZ Fort Myers, FL. Expect to see more of this nationwide as part of Clear Channel’s “Premium Choice” initiative. Pulse News Launches in Chattanooga

Brewer Media Group has flipped “95.3 Jack-FM” WHJK Chattanooga, TN to News/Talk as “Pulse News” as WPLZ, merging the station’s branding with the weekly newspaper it runs in the city. Additionally, sister CHR WALV “Alive 105” will flip to Sports as “ESPN Chattanooga” when it moves from 104.9 to 105.1 and moves its transmitter into Chattanooga proper in mid-June. What’s Brewing in Portland?

When Clear Channel acquired Classic Hits “K-Hits 106.7” KLTH Portland from CBS last month it opened up a question of what it would do with its own “Kool 105.9” KQOL. The answer seems to be coming from Milwaukee as 1059TheBrew.com is currently pointing to KQOL’s website. The “Brew” branding is currently used on 80’s heavy Classic Rockers in Milwaukee, Columbus, and Omaha.

Santa comes early to 105.5 KJZN Fresno

Update 5/1/09: KJZN did flip to Talk as “105.5 The Truth” on Friday, May 1. The all-syndicated lineup features Mancow, Laura Ingraham, Jerry Doyle, Michael Savage, Rusty Humphries, Curtis Sliwa, and Phil Hendrie. However, Wilks did not get all its plans in place quick enough as primary competitor Peak Broadcasting registered 1055TheTruth.com and TheTruth1055.com and have them pointing to the site of 580/105.9 KMJ. Wilks Broadcasting Smooth Jazz 105.5 KJZN Fresno has begun stunting with Christmas Music in preparation of a format change on Friday, May 1. The stunting is interspersed with promos promising “The Truth coming on Friday”. Will KJZN be competing with the new 105.9 KMJ-FM for the talk audience?

Update 4/27/09: WXMM did become CHR “Hot 100.5” at 7:00am under OM John Shomby and PD Paul McCoy. The station has new WVHT calls pending.

Not So WARM in Scranton

Update 4/23/09: WARM returned to air today after all. Citadel Broadcasting has stayed silent all-along regarding the fate of the station. Citadel Broadcasting’s 590 WARM Scranton has gone dark. The station, which has been off the air for the past week, stated that it is too costly to repair the damaged transmitter. WARM was Northeast Pennsylvania’s premier Top 40 station throughout the 60’s and 70’s before giving way to a News/Talk format. In recent years WARM aired ABC’s True Oldies Network. AmpRadio 105.1 Debuts in Orlando

Sort Of. CBS Radio has launched the “Amp Radio” CHR brand in Orlando on the HD2 of Hot AC WOMX “Mix 105.1“. While the AMPRadio1051.com domain we first told you about in February is dormant, the station has an online presence here. WOMX-HD2 previously featured an All-80’s format “Totally Retro”.

99X Atlanta To Return Friday

Cumulus Media has announced that Modern Rock stalwart “99X” will return to the Atlanta airwaves on Friday, April 17 at 9:09am via the 97.9 translator that Cumulus recently acquired. W250BC Riverdale, GA will duplicate the 99X programming that has continued to air on 99.7-HD2 since WNNX gave way to CHR Q100 in January 2008. The 250 watt translator covers much of Atlanta proper.
