Amidst their national cuts that directly affected their Louisville cluster, iHeartMedia launched Variety Hits “100.5 FM” at 5pm today.
Branding as “Your Life on Shuffle”, the station is promoting a mix similar to the old “Gen X Radio” format with a mix of 80s and 90s hits. The station launched with Young MC “Bust A Move”, 2 Unlimited “Get Ready For This”, and Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.
Original Report 12/30/19: As the clock struck midnight, the Christmas Music stunting on iHeartMedia’s 100.5 WLGX Louisville came to an end.
It did not lead directly into a new format as the station has moved into a new round of stunting promoting the building of a new brand. With references to building a good foundation and the station being under construction, the station is currently featuring a very broad iteration of Variety Hits. Among the songs we’ve heard so far include Matchbox 20 “Real World”, Fat Joe ft. Ashanti “What’s Luv?”, John Michael Montgomery “Sold (The Grundy County Auction)”, Journey “Faithfully”, Four Non Blondes “What’s Up”, Hootie and The Blowfish “Hold My Hand” and Rick James “Superfreak”.
WLGX dropped its previous Hot AC “100.5 Kiss-FM” identity and began stunting as “Christmas 100.5” on November 27.
I figured this station would revert to Variety Hits following its All Christmas run, but since the station is still in stunt mode, it’s tough to say with certainty that Variety Hits will actually be the final format.
However, if I were a betting man, I’d say the final format will sound a lot like the former 100.5 Louie FM, which ran on the station from 2005 to 2009.
Know what station needs to flip? Alt 105.1! What an absolute DUMPSTER FIRE! That station has got to be the poorest performing Alternative-formatted station anywhere in the country from a ratings standpoint!
