Update 1/2: With Genuine Austin Radio assuming control of 104.9 KTXX-FM and 1260 KWNX today, the stations have flipped to a hybrid Sports Talk/Classic Hits format.
Chip Brown and Chad Hastings’ morning show will expand an hour and run from 6am to 10am. Bucky Godbolt and Erin Hogan will remain in the 3-7pm timeslot. Midday co-host Sean Adams has been let go, while his co-host Adam Loeb will remain with the station in a yet to be disclosed role.
The rest of the station’s lineup will feature Classic Hits music replacing ESPN Radio programming. Austin has not had a Classic Hits formatted station since 98.9 KXBT was sold to the University of Texas in 2012.
Original Report 12/31: Bob Cole, Jason Nassour, and Eric Raines’ Genuine Austin Radio continues to grow.
The Austin American-Statesman reports that Cole’s group has purchased Sports “104.9 The Horn” KTXX-FM Bee Cave/1260 KWNX Elgin from Total Austin Sports Radio and will begin operating the station via LMA on Thursday, January 2.
In regards to the format, Cole told the Statesman that it will retain its local sports programming in mornings and afternoons, but other dayparts would be tweaked.
“We’re going to do something a little different,” he said, “that fills a hole that no one else in the market is filling.”
Total Austin Sports Radio acquired KTXX-FM/KWNX from Border Media in July 2012 for $2.5 Million. Genuine Austin Radio owns Alt Country 99.3 KOKE-FM and Christian Talk “The Word 1490” KLGO in the Austin market.
Well this can definitely be called classic hits but I think it sounds a little more like classic rock. Seems to be a lot of the softer classic rock though.
