Buckley Broadcasting took Sports “ESPN 630” KIDD Monterey, CA off the air on December 31.
The move comes following the closing of the sale of Buckley’s other remaining properties to Alpha Media. The move makes the Monterey-Salinas market one of the few in the country without a Sports formatted station, although Cumulus’ 680 KNBR San Francisco puts a city-grade signal into the market.
The Monterey Herald reports that Buckley intends to dismantle the station’s towers instead of making necessary repairs to the tower lighting. They are located on protected coastal wetlands in the flight path of the local airport. Buckley intends to sell the license to the station sans tower site instead of turning in the license.
Without the towers, what good is the license?
