Just three and a half months after launching Classic Hits “105.1 GHL” WGHL Shepherdsville/Louisville, Alpha Media has quickly turned around and flipped the station to Classic Hip-Hop “Old School 105.1“.
The new format joins an Alpha Media Louisville Urban block consisting of Urban “B96.5” WGZB and Urban AC “Magic 101.3” WMJM. The change comes despite a slight uptick for the Classic Hits format versus its previous Soft AC format in its only ratings book as WGHL registered a 1.8 share in the Fall 2014 Nielsen Audio ratings as opposed to a 1.6 in the Summer.
Senior VP/Market Manager Dale Schaefer commented, “In the past year, the Classic Hip Hop format has emerged throughout the country as the hottest new radio format because it targets a well-educated, high income audience of 25-54 year olds who grew up listening to this genre of music. We are thrilled to be able to fill this music void in the Louisville market so that advertisers can effectively reach this desirable group of listeners in our community.”
OM George Lindsey noted, “Louisville has such a strong Hip Hop history, Static Major and the like, that we at Alpha Media Louisville are honored to develop a station that will be home to nothing but Throwback Hip Hop.” Phillip David March, Director of Urban Programming states, “I’m very excited for the opportunity to provide the Louisville market a music choice that has been missing. An entire generation has grown up with hip hop and it now has a place on the dial where they can hear their favorite Throwback Hip Hop on Old School 105.1.”
