Update 3/16: A little after 10:00 this morning, the SaveAlternative branded programming on KSJO gave way to Chinese pop music. In addition to its online venue and weekend nights on 104.9 KCNL, the SaveAlternative programming will be heard 24/7 on KCNL-HD2.
Update 3/14: The Save Alterntative programming will continue on KSJO through Wednesday, March 16. The programming will continue online at SaveAlternative.com as well as Saturdays and Sundays from 8pm to 12am on 104.9 KCNL. The group behind the programming explains its motives in this e-mail to its audience. The station has invited the former airstaff of “Channel 92.3” to return on Wednesday for a proper farewell to the market before the station takes on its new permanent format.
Original Report 2/28: Clear Channel’s Aloha Stations Trust has closed on the sales of its two San Jose, CA stations. Entercom officially takes over 98.5 KUFX, although it has been managing the station via LMA. Principle Broadcasting has assumed control of Modern Rock “Channel 92.3” KSJO.
The station is now running jockless and promoting SaveAlternative.com. That site is registered to the Digital VP of the New Jersey based Millennium Radio Group, which shares investors with Principle Broadcasting. Millennium operates a similar website at ShoreAlternative.com and Modern Rock format on WJLK-HD2 Asbury Park, NJ.
Additionally KSJO923FM.com is on the same server as sisters 1170 KLOK and 104.9 KCNL’s websites awaiting activation. We should know soon whether KSJO will join its new sister stations with brokered programming or continue on with this revamped Modern Rock format.
While the entire staff of Channel 92.3 was let go today, Mega Tanner the afternoon host has been hired to do middays at CBS’ “Live 105” KITS San Francisco beginning March 1.
