Update 5/27: Clear Channel made the switch at noon today. The CHR format of WDKF shifts from 94.5 to become “Channel 99.9“, while AC “Lite-FM” WLQT goes in reverse to 94.5. As part of the shift, WLQT morning host Paul Ellis was let go.
Original Report 5/24: On the heels of Main Line Broadcasting’s launch of Modern AC “Click 101.5” WCLI-FM into the Dayton market in March, Clear Channel is planning on a frequency swap at two of its stations.
The shift will upgrade CHR “Channel 94.5” WDKF from its 3.6kW Class A signal to the 28kW Class B stick currently held by Soft AC “99.9 Lite-FM” WLQT. 945LiteFM.com and Channel999Dayton.com have both been registered by Clear Channel this week.
In the recent Winter book, both WDKF and WLQT tied with a 4.8 share. With Channel 94.5 being flanked by the aforementioned Click 101.5 and its sister Rhythmic CHR “Hot 102.9” WDHT, the move should give them a more stronger profile in the region.
Update 6:50pm An e-mailer reminds us that both 94.5 and 106.5 are in the Aloha Stations Trust awaiting to be spun-off. The move would keep the CHR format in the Clear Channel cluster along with Modern Rock “103.9 The X” WXEG, Rock 104.7 WTUE, Hot AC “Mix 107.7” WMMX, Sports 980 WONE and Classic Country 1340 WIZE. With not many other AC options available, any listener unable to recieve 94.5 Lite-FM will be likely to shift to Mix 107.7.
Well, that comes at a unexpected time for me. I would never expect 94.5 and 99.9 to have frequency swaps since I’m from the area. Thankfully, their formats will still be intact regardless.
When will the swap take place, and is it possible that it would be recorded for the Format Change site?
Frequency swaps are impossible to record via webstream, since the programming just continues as usual so if we do post the flip it will be via someone in Dayton sending us off-air recordings.
Delilah seems to have dissapeared, and the music seems even mellower, with more emphasis on “soft favorites”. I’m guessing Lite is now all Premium Choice. We’ll see if any jocks are added eventually to Channel.
They’re running the Premium Choice “Sunny” Soft AC feed. Wondering if Mix 107.7 will be gradually shifting into the Mainstream AC direction.
CC does not own 1410 WING, Main Line Broadcasting does.
Oops. Mixed them up with now Classic Country 1340 WIZE.
