Update 5/23: As predicted here, Entercom launched Adult CHR “107.9 The Mix” at 5:00pm today. The new format will focus on music from the 21st century with a current/recurrent lean.
“We are thrilled to bring this amazing mix of contemporary music to Indianapolis. Due to the tremendous success of Entercom’s Top-40 station, WZPL, there is a hole in the market for a station like 1079 The Mix,” said Jennifer Skjodt, Entercom Indianapolis VP and General Manager. “We are building on the strength of nearly 300,000 weekly WNTR listeners to create a better mix. Today’s launch is the perfect opportunity and timing for 1079 The Mix.”
The first hour of 107.9 The Mix featured:
Fall Out Boy – My Songs Know What You Did In
Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen – Good Time
All American Rejects – Move Along
Emile Sandé – Next To Me
Bruno Mars – Locked Out Of Heaven
Florence & The Machine – Dog Days Are Over
Pink – Just Give Me A Reason
One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful
Coldplay – Paradise
Train – 50 Ways To Say Goodbye
One Republic – The Good Life
B.O.B. f/ Hayley Williams – Airplanes
Justin Timberlake – Mirrors
Lifehouse – Hanging By A Moment
Taylor Swift – I Knew You Were Trouble
Bruno Mars – When I Was Your Man
Update 5/22: At 5:00 today, 107.9 WNTR shifted into stunt mode in preparation of the new format.
The station is running short blocks of micro-formats. So far we’ve logged Rock “Rock 107.9“, All Garth Brooks “Garth 107.9“, Christmas Music “Yule 107.9“, All Boy Bands “Heartthrob 107.9“, and nature sounds “Earth 107.9“.
Original Report 5/19: A revamp appears to be on the way to Entercom Adult Hits “My 107.9” WNTR Indianapolis.
Domain registrations for 1079TheMixOnline.com, Indys1079TheMix.com, and IndysMix.com were made on May 15. Update May 20: Those domains have been joined by registrations for IndysAllSports.com, IndysNewRock.com, and IndysNewRock1079.com.
WNTR has added more Hot AC currents/recurrents in recent months as sister 99.5 WZPL shifted from Hot AC to Mainstream CHR. 107.9 currently ranks 13th in the market with a 3.1 share.
With the Memorial Day weekend coming up it looks as though WNTR will join Entercom stations in Austin, Madison, and Milwaukee with the Mix brand.
