The FCC has denied Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting’s request for a waiver submitted with its application for a new translator on 100.9 in Chesapeake VA to rebroadcast Spanish Christian 1600 WCPK Chesapeake/Norfolk VA.

C-P’s sister company Delmarva Educational Association had applied in the first 2016 250 mile waiver period to relocate W214BJ Murfreesboro NC to Chesapeake to rebroadcast WCPK. DEA then withdrew the application and in the second filing window instead applied to move W214BJ to 104.9 in Hampton VA where it is now operating rebroadcasting Gospel 1270 WTJZ Newport News.

In the 2017 filing window for new translators for AMs, C-P applied for a translator on 100.9 Chesapeake but requested a waiver because a station who used any of the previous AM Revitalization translator windows was not eligible. 100.9 was also requested by Max Media’s 1310 WGH Newport News who filed a petition against Chesapeake-Portsmouth stating that it did not qualify for the waiver as it did not lose the original 250 mile move translator for reasons beyond its control. The FCC decided against C-P Broadcasting ruling that it violated the one translator to a station edict.
