October 2020 (9/10 – 10/7) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 3: Talk Surges In Salt Lake City

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
October 28, 2020

Talk Radio 105.9 570 KNRS Salt Lake CityDay 3 of Nielsen Audio’s PPM releases are now available for Portland, Charlotte, San Antonio, Sacramento, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Orlando, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Kansas City, and Columbus.

All the numbers can be found at RadioInsight.com/Ratings.

We’ve launched our newly enhanced ratings pages. With the assistance of Ratings Expert™ Chris Huff our ratings tables now feature the monthly ratings for the past six months, current CUME, station owner, format, and brand name. The ratings pages will also feature Huff’s exclusive HuffNotes spotlighting records, trends, and changes.

For the second month in a row the three spoken word stations in Salt Lake City have seen significant gains. iHeartMedia Conservative Talk 570 KNRS/105.9 KNRS-FM rises to the top of the market with a 6.1 – 7.3 – 7.6 for what Huff notes is a new record for either frequency and the first time they’ve led the market. Bonneville News/Talk 1160 KSL/102.7 KSL-FM moves up to second 5.1 – 6.1 – 7.4. Public News/Talk 90.1 KUER-FM rises 2.3 – 4.4 – 4.8.

Bonneville AC “FM 100” KSFI placed third in Salt Lake City with a 5.9 to 6.9 gain. Those stations growth comes at the expense of iHeartMedia Classic Hits 94.1 KODJ (7.8 – 7.5 -6.3) and a pair of Country stations. Cumulus Media’s “K-Bull 93” KUBL drops 5.5 – 4.8 4.1, while KSOP Inc. “Z104.3” KSOP-FM slides 4.1 – 3.3 – 2.6.

Portland saw a lot of movements. iHeartMedia AC “K103” KKCW rises to the market lead with a 7.8 to 8.4 gain. Public News/Talk 91.5 KOPB drops to second 8.4 to 7.6. Alpha Media News/Talk 101.1 KXL rises 6.0 to 7.6 for third, while Entercom Classic Rock 92.3 KGON jumps to fourth 5.5 to 6.6 for what Huff notes is its highest share since 1994.

Many female focused stations were down in Portland. iHeartMedia Rhythmic CHR “Jam’n 107.5” KXJM fell 3.9 to 3.4 while sister CHR “Z100” KKRZ dropped 4.1 to 3.3. Alpha Media Country “98.7 The Bull” KUPL slid 3.6 to 3.4 while CHR “Live 95.5” KBFF fell 3.2 to 2.7. Entercom Alternative 94.7 KNRK Portland and the rebranded “Alt 96.5” KRBZ Kansas City had the most vocal outcries from listeners following the on-air talent changes last month yet both stations rose in the aftermath. KNRK was up 2.8 to 3.4, while KRBZ rose 2.1 to 2.7. Not as successful following its rebranding was “Alt 107.5” KXTE Las Vegas, which fell 1.9 to 1.6.
