Entercom Alternative “FM 94.9” KBZT San Diego has parted ways with morning hosts Chris Cantore and Stephen Woods.
Cantore joined KBZT in October 2015 following runs at Alternative “91X” XETRA-FM and AAA 102.1 KPRI in the market. Woods joined the station in 2010 as part of the previous “Mikey Show” led by Mikey Esparza from 97.1 KEGL Dallas. The duo started podcasting together in 2013 while working at different stations in the market.
KBZT has been the subject of many rumors in the market since it was announced last year that it would become the new flagship for San Diego Padres baseball starting this April. Entercom has stated throughout they remain committed to the Alternative format at the station.
Don’t believe Entercom San Diego about keeping KBZT-94.9 “alternative”.
KBZT will likely flip to all-sports.
And with the Chargers leaving for L.A., and no NHL or NBA teams in that market, KBZT will have a local on pro play-by-play. Possibly a local major college’s football and men’s basketball games will be added to the schedule.
Provided that Entercom San Diego can pick up either of the city’s two big-time college programs. The Mighty 1090 has San Diego State football and men’s basketball. ESPN 1700 has University of San Diego men’s basketball.
Considering that the Padres deal was announced almost nine months ago, I really think that Entercom would’ve already flipped the station–or, at least, made announcements about an upcoming flip–if that had been the actual plan.
