WSM announced today that George Plaster’s new talk show will air on Sundays from 5-8pm.
WSM Program Director Jonathan Shaffer will co-host with Plaster and will resurrect the “Sports Night” name Plaster used during his careerat WPRT, WGFX, and WWTN.
Original Report 7/20: Former “104.5 The Zone” WGFX and “102.5 The Game” WPRT-FM Nashville afternoon host George Plaster is set to join Grand Ole Opry’s 650 WSM Nashville.
The Tennessean reports that Plaster, who exited WPRT-FM in august 2016 to become Associate Athletic Director at Belmont University, will be be officially introduced at a press conference on Wednesday, July 26. No timeslot has been revealed yet.
WSM Program Director Jonathan Shaffer will co-host with Plaster and told the newspaper that despite the addition of the show it will retain its mostly Classic Country format, “I do want to say that this is not any part of any kind of format flip or anything else; we’re totally committed to what we’re doing (at WSM-AM 650). My official stance as program director is that when you have the chance to add a legendary talent to a legendary signal you do it.” WSM currently features an afternoon talk show, Nashville Today, hosted by Nan Kelley and Devon O’Day from 3-6pm weekdays surrounding its music programming.
Plaster will retain his duties at Belmont University.
This is nothing new. Dave Ramsey once had a Sunday evening shift on WSM back when his flagship station (WWTN) and WSM were both owned by Gaylord.
Devon O’Day is a great radio talent.
I hope that they treat her very well in the changes at WSM Radio. Ed
