Former Evergreen Media & AMFM Inc. CEO Jimmy deCastro has been appointed as Senior Vice President/Market Manager of Entercom Chicago upon closing of the acquisition of CBS Radio by Entercom.
DeCastro first came to Chicago in 1981 to be GM of 97.9 WLUP. He would later purchase the station as part of Evergreen Media, which would later merge with Chancellor Broadcasting to form AMFM. While President of AMFM, the company was bought and merged into Clear Channel in 2000. He has since served as President of AOL Interactive and in 2007 founded The Content Factory, which launched the Dan Patrick Show into syndication before being sold to DirecTV, and then as President/GM of Tribune’s 720 WGN Chicago from 2013-2016. He founded Sports Marketing company After The Whistle earlier this year to represent college football & basketball coaches and select media personalities.
As first reported by Robert Feder, deCastro will take over the soon-to-be former CBS Radio cluster that includes Sports “670 The Score” WSCR, News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS, AAA 93.1 WXRT, CHR “B96” 96.3 WBBM-FM, Country “US 99.5” WUSN, and Classic Hits “104.3 K-Hits” WJMK.
deCastro succeds Tim Pohlman, who was transferred from Phoenix to run CBS Radio Chicago in January 2016.
