Urban One Urban “Power 107.5” WCKX Columbus OH has added a second signal in the market as the company flips Classic Hip-Hop “Boom 106.3” WBMO London OH to a simulcast.
The addition of the 106.3 rimshot signal enhances WCKX’s coverage on the west side of the Columbus market as Power has fallen behind iHeartMedia’s “106.7 The Beat” WZCB Dublin in the most recent PPM monthly. WZCB registered a 3.6 share in the October monthly, while WCKX held a 3.3 share down from a 4.0 just two months ago. The Classic Hip-Hop format on WBMO held a 1.5 share.
Boom had launched on 106.3 in November 2015 after Urban AC “Magic 106.3” WXMG moved to 95.5.

Many might not remember but 106.3 was the original home of Power’s format many years ago before Radio One purchased the former Urban 107.5 WJZA and flipped it to the home of Power 107.5.
I would have expected WBMO to flip to a simulcast of WJYD, which 106.3 had been prior to that frequency assuming WXMG’s “Magic” format. Besides WCKX, Urban One’s Columbus portfolio is composed of rimshot signals, neither of which entirely cover the market.
