Following the departure of Sheila Hamilton last week, Alpha Media News/Talk 101.1 KXL-FM Portland has appointed Lucinda Kay and Cooper Banks as co-anchors for “Portland’s Afternoon News” from 4-7pm weekdays.
Kay has worked as a television reporter and talk show host in Spokane and as a communications consultant. She has worked for KXL on a freelance basis since 2016. Banks joins the station from Entercom News/Talk 98.1 KMBZ-FM Kansas City where he worked as a producer, reporter, and news anchor.
Alpha Media, Portland, OR announced today the addition of Lucinda Kay and Cooper Banks to the Afternoon News program. Portland’s Afternoon News airs Monday – Friday 4pm-7pm.
Lucinda Kay brings with her an extensive background in radio and TV news. Lucinda launched her career in journalism in 1994, working as a TV News Anchor and Reporter for several years, and reporting and anchoring for several radio stations in English and Spanish. Lucinda hosted her own talk show in Spokane. She started freelancing for KXL Radio in 2016 and is excited to transition into a fulltime role with the station.
Lucinda Kay commented on the announcement, “I got into the news business to tell stories, and provide a voice for others in this bright, beautiful, diverse world. I started shadowing in a news room when I was just 15 and I knew then, journalism would be my path.”
An in depth education in the Broadcasting and Film degree program at the University of Central Missouri laid a professional foundation that helped Cooper Banks refine his natural ability early on. Cooper worked as an afternoon DJ at KWKJ in Warrensburg, MO in 2004, and was hired as News Director for KMXL/KDMO in Joplin, MO 2 years later. He made the jump to large market radio, taking a position with KMBZ in Kansas City as a Producer, Reporter, and News Anchor.
“My passion for radio is still burning bright and I’m looking forward to serving the Portland audience,” remarked Cooper Banks.
I am extremely excited to work each day with Cooper and Lucinda. They have the talent that will take KXL to a new level in pm drive,” commented Alpha Media Portland Content Director, Bruce Collins.
