Following the close of the sale of its stations, Scripps VP/Radio Steve Wexler will return to Milwaukee to oversee News/Talk 620 WTMJ and Country “94.5 KTI” WKTI for Good Karma Brands.
The Milwaukee Business Journal reports that Wexler will succeed current General Manager Tom Langmyer, who announced his departure in a memo to staffers today. Langmyer joined the stations in 2013 after previously serving in similar roles at WGN Chicago and KMOX St. Louis.
Wexler began his career at WTMJ as an intern in 1977. After working his way up to on-air host at the duo, he spent time as a programmer at WISN Milwaukee, KGW Portland, and KING Seattle before returning to WTMJ as Program Director in 1993. He rose to General Manager of Journal Communications properties in Tucson in 1997 and then Omaha in 2001 before coming back to WTMJ/WKTI in 2007 as VP/General Manager. He then rose to overseeing the company’s radio division in 2014 and stayed in that role following the company’s merger with Scripps the following year.
Will WKTI become a simulcast of there “ESPN Milwaukee”?
How would that even cross your mind? KTI is doing supremely well against MTI, and it’s a good idea to just kill it off?
I seriously doubt it. As mentioned, ‘KTI does well with its current format; also, its signal would be too big to waste on a straight simulcast. (Indeed, 540’s signal is surprisingly good–with its main shortcomings relating to the directional patterns.)
