Westwood One’s NBC Sports Radio is cutting back on its programming starting January 1, 2019.
In a memo to affiliates, Westwood One states that it will continue to offer them 24/7 sportscasts at the top and bottom of the hour as well as the PFT Live with Mike Florio morning show live from 6-9am and a refeed from 9am-12pm eastern/6-9am pacific. Best of PFT with Mike Florio and Safety Blitz with Rodney Harrison will be offered to affiliates on Saturdays ad a new “fast-paced, unique PM drive program focused on what matters to today’s sports fan” afternoon drive show will debut in the 3-7pm slot.
Among the hosts being dropped are Newy Scruggs, Keith Irizarry, Mark Malone, and Dan Schwartzman from the weekday lineup.
NBC Sports Radio debuted in September 2012, but has struggled to gain affiliates. Its largest affiliate is Hubbard Radio’s “NBC Sports Radio 1060” KDUS Phoenix.
The memo sent to affiliates follows:
Dear NBC Sports Radio Affiliate,
Effective January 1, 2019, Westwood One will be adjusting its 24/7 NBC Sports Radio network to focus on its NBC Sports Radio Updates and select primary programs.
The revised programming schedule in 2019 will consist of best in class live, up to the minute sports updates at the top and bottom of the hour 7 days a week, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. PFT Live with Mike Florio on weekday mornings 6am-9am ET with a west coast feed from 6am-9am PT, Best of PFT with Mike Florio and Safety Blitz with Rodney Harrison every Saturday, and a new fast-paced, unique PM drive program focused on what matters to today’s sports fan from 3pm-7pm ET weekday afternoons.
