AJ Rises To iHeartMedia Virginia-Carolina Region Senior Vice President of Programming

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
March 12, 2019

iHeartMedia iHeart iHeartCommunicationsCorrection: In addition to his new role, AJ will remain Program Director of CHR “Hits 96.1” WHQC and Variety Hits “102.9 The Lake” WLKO Charlotte.

Original Report 3/12: iHeartMedia has promoted Chadwick ‘AJ’ Hausknecht to Region Senior Vice President of Programming for the Virginia-Carolina region.

AJ will continue to oversee all day-to-day programming and digital content for the company’s Charlotte cluster but will step down as day-to-day Program Director of CHR “Hits 96.1” WHQC and Variety Hits “102.9 The Lake” WLKO. The region includes iHeartMedia’s operations in Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, Norfolk, Roanoke, and Winchester VA, Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh NC, and Greenville SC.

AJ joined iHeartMedia in 2012 as Senior Vice President of Programming overseeing the company’s Norfolk and Richmond VA stations and programming CHR “Q94” WRVQ and AC “Mix 98.1” WTVR-FM Richmond. He then transferred to St. Louis in July 2016 where he oversaw all programming for St. Louis and programmed CHR “Z107.7” KSLZ and Gospel “Hallelujah 1600” KATZ. He joined the Charlotte cluster in January 2018. He has also programmed CHRs 97.1 WBHT Wilkes-Barre, “Kiss 106.7” WKGS Rochester, and “Hot 107.9” WWHT Syracuse during his career.

iHeartMedia announced today that Chadwick “A.J.” Hausknecht has been named Region Senior Vice President of Programming for the Virginia-Carolina region, effective immediately. iHeartMedia has a strong cross-platform presence and includes a number of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing more than 50 stations comprised of music, talk and news formats in the Virginia-Carolina region.

iHeartMedia has the leading consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company. As Region Senior Vice President of Programming, A.J. will be responsible for all day-to-day programming and digital operations for iHeartMedia Charlotte. In addition, A.J. will oversee on-air content, digital strategy, music programming and on-air personalities for the Virginia-Carolina region as well. He will report to Dave Carwile, Region President for iHeartMedia’s Virginia-Carolina region.

“We are extremely pleased to have A.J. lead as Region Senior Vice President of Programming for the Virginia-Carolina region,” said Carwile. “A.J. has the experience and passion for talent coaching and developing extraordinary teams. I’ve worked with A.J. in this capacity before and he is a game changer. I am confident that he will make a strong impact and contribution to the Virginia-Carolina region’s ongoing success.”

A.J. most recently served as the Program Director for HITS 96.1 and 102.9 The Lake in Charlotte. In addition, he previously served as the Region Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia’s St. Louis Region, Region Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Richmond and Norfolk, Program Director for HOT 107.9 in Syracuse, New York and KISS 106.7 in Rochester, New York. He began his career at WBHT in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

“The opportunity to lead all programming efforts in the region is spectacular,” said A.J. “I look forward to working very closely with our talented programmers and on air personalities to ensure continued growth and success of our brands in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. I want to thank iHeartMedia’s senior leadership for their continued insight and support.”
