Former WEEI Boston morning co-host Kirk Minihane has announced he has received his release from his Entercom contract.
Minihane was last heard in mornings at WEEI last August when he took a leave of absence after being hospitalized with suicidal thoughts. When he returned the company announced a multi-platform deal for Minihane to host a daily podcast and column for Radio.com starting in January with a daily streaming show alongside a co-host to follow in early 2019 but never did.
Last week Minihane made a public ultimatum to Entercom demanding a Kirk Minihane network on Radio.com with his show and other shows. In a Periscope video today announcing his exit, Minihane claims he has no non-compete and will take offers for two weeks calling himself “the top free agent in media history”. He also stated he had no interest in joining another local station including Beasley’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM and is seemingly setting his sights on national platforms. Minihane also stated he retained the ownership to his “Enough About Me” podcast name.
In a brief statement Entercom’s PR team wrote, “We’ve mutually agreed to part ways with Kirk and allow him to pursue other opportunities. Over the years, Kirk has been a valuable member of WEEI, and host of the ‘Enough About Me’ podcast. We wish him the best on his future endeavors.”
