Former “Mighty 1090” XEPRS Tijuana/San Diego early afternoon host Darren Smith is joining iHeartMedia Sports “Xtra 1360” KLSD San Diego in the same 12-3pm timeslot.
Smith will be joined by his longtime producer/co-host Marty Caswell at KLSD. Smith had been with XEPRS from 2004 until its demise earlier this year with Caswell joining his in 2007.
With the addition of Smith, the current 12-3pm show hosted by Jon Schaeffer and Nick Hardwick comes to an end. Schaeffer will move to afternoons from 3-6pm as part of the “Loose Cannons” alongside Steve Hartman and Rich Ohrnberger while Hardwick will segue to and NFL Insider role including a “Football Hour” on Mondays and Fridays at 8am during the Costa and Richards show.
Smith becomes the second XEPRS show to move to a competitor in the market after Ben & Woods moved to mornings at “97.3 The Fan” KWFN in May.
iHeartMedia San Diego has announced changes to its weekday lineup on KLSD-AM, XTRA 1360, effective Tuesday, August 6, 2019. Middays from 12 Noon – 3 p.m. will now feature The Darren Smith Show. Jon Schaeffer, who currently co-hosts the midday show, will join Steve Hartman and Rich Ohrnberger on the Loose Cannons show 3 – 6 p.m.
Darren Smith has been a prominent voice in San Diego sports radio since 2004, hosting a variety of afternoon shows on The Mighty 1090 AM. When sports fans seek unique opinions on the world of sports, information on breaking news, and memorable interviews, Smith has consistently delivered for 15 years.
Prior to his broadcast career on the west coast, Smith spent time at ESPN Radio in Bristol, CT (1998-2002), where he helped launch ESPN’s 24-hour format and produced several different programs, including The Dan Patrick Show.
Smith will be joined by Senior Reporter and Producer Marty Caswell, who has been with the Darren Smith Show since 2007. Caswell is a native San Diegan and proud graduate of San Diego State University. Her passion for sports and refusal to take “NO” for an answer has made Caswell one of the most dominant, and well-known sports producers in Southern California.
Nick Hardwick, who most recently co-hosted middays with Jon Schaeffer will take an “NFL Insider” role with the station. Hardwick’s “Football Hour” will air on Monday and Friday mornings at 8 a.m. during Costa and Richards show.
