Entercom AC “Today’s 101.9” WLIF Baltimore parted ways with afternoon host Robert ‘Fast Jimi Roberts’ Jacobs last week as part of the company-wide budget cuts that have taken place over the past few months.
Best known for his fifteen year run at 95.5 WPLJ New York, he had spent the past twenty years at the CBS Radio now Entercom cluster with time in afternoons at CHR “B102.7” WXYV, Hot AC “Mix 106.5” WWMX, and Oldies 102.7 WQSR before moving to WLIF in 2005. He began his career in his native Louisiana and worked at WMEE Fort Wayne, KIIQ Colorado Springs and WMJY Long Branch NJ before moving to WPLJ in 1984.
In his Facebook post commenting on his exit, Jacobs wrote, “On May 3, 1974, I walked into KLIC in Monroe, Louisiana, with a 5-minute tape of news for my first job interview. Two hours later, I was on the air with no experience, and a career was born. 45 years! Wow, how did that happen?! My journey took me from Louisiana to Mississippi, Indiana, Colorado, NYC, Washington DC and Baltimore. Yesterday it came to an end. Our business is changing, and it finally caught up with me. While sad, I have no hard feelings. Thanks to Tracy Brandys and Tom Cook for making a difficult day much less difficult. It was a great run. In 45 years, I don’t think I was ever out of work for more than two weeks. Now THAT’s an accomplishment! SO many good times and so many friends made. Some of you are tagged in these photos of my radio life from Monroe to Baltimore. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all.” He stated he intends to focus on his “Robert Jacobs Voice” voiceover business and photography.
