Gleason Media has announced it will cease its business operations on Sunday, March 29 at 7pm.
Gleason currently operates “WOXO Country” 92.7 WOXO-FM Norway/100.7 WRMO-FM Mexico, Hot AC “Maine’s Big Z” 1240 WEZR/105.5 W288CW Lewiston and 1450 WPNO/96.9 W245CQ South Paris and Sports 780 WTME Rumford ME. The stations, which have been for sale since the passing of owner Dick Gleason in February 2019, will go silent at that time.
General Manger Vic Hodgkins told the Lewiston Sun-Journal that “a combination of low receivables and slow payments, combined with a projected drop in advertising because of COVID-19, has resulted in the need to close the stations”.
That’s very sad news. Dick Gleason did a great job running that little network of stations for many years. What’s more, WEZR (the former WCOU) has been on the air since 1938. It was Lewiston-Auburn’s CBS affiliate for decades.
