Sheryl and Jerry Coyne’s Blarney Stone Broadcasting are making their third attempt at bringing the programming their Classic Rock “Q100” 100.3 WQON Grayling MI into the Traverse City market.
A failed 2016 purchase of Northern Broadcast would have included merging WQON with Rock “KLT” 97.5 WKLT Kalkaska. In October 2018, Blarney Stone began leasing three of Roy Henderson’s stations and flipped 99.3 WOUF Beulah to a simulcast of WQON as WQAN. That deal would fall apart in October 2019, which would be followed by Blarney Stone lease Mitten News LLC’s 94.5 WYPV Mackinaw City/106.3 WWMN Thompsonville and launch AC “North-FM” in November.
After just seven months the company will flip WYPV and WWMN to a simulcast of “Q100” WQON on Monday, June 22. Current “North-FM” morning show “Finster In The Morning” hosted by Sean ‘Finster’ Finnegan will move over to “Q100“. Finnegan had joined the company last September after sitting out a one year non-compete after leaving MacDonald Garber Broadcasting Variety Hits “104.5 Bob-FM” WZTC.
