The Bilingual Rhythmic “Más Flo” brand has returned to Tijuana and San Diego for a second stint.
Originally operated by MLC Media on the non-commercial 104.9 XHLNC-FM Tijuana from December 2019 until April 1, the brand relaunched on Grupo Audiorama’s former Spanish CHR “Los 40 107.7” XHRST-FM Tijuana on December 1. The new format features core artists such as Bad Bunny, Karol G, Maluma and J. Balvin.
Targeting both sides of the border, the original version of the brand was operated from MLC Media’s Los Angeles studios. This one will come Grupo Audiorama’s Tijuana studios with SanDiegoRed.com reporting that the current airstaff remaining in place. While the station does not have a website, it is streaming off of Grupo Audiorama’s site here.
This is the second time they’ve done this and the last time it didn’t even work so good luck whoever runs the service.
The previous attempt was on a noncommercial station that’s significantly inland (and might be officially licensed to Tecate); this time, it’s on a commercial station that’s a lot closer to the coast (and is truly licensed to Tijuana). I can’t say that that was the only issue, but I do think that the basic format should be sound.
Makes total sense now. But they would have to keep in mind they would be competing still with 91.7 which is branded as Exa FM. By the way is 104.9 still running the Spanish adult hits format that replaced it
Pulsar 107.3 could also still be considered somewhat of a competitor–and might have a much-stronger signal, to boot. Still, replacing Los40 with Más Flo should add at least a bit of space between 107.7 and Exa/Pulsar. Besides, Audiorama might also operate a fairly similar format in Guadalajara, on what’s now KY 94.7 (after Grupo Radio Centro pulled Planeta from that station, in favor of putting it on a directly owned outlet).
The majority of the stations that you mentioned also play English language music to 91.7, 107.3, and the former 107.7.
