After launching Spanish Rhythmic “Más Flo 104.9” XHLNC-FM Tijuana MX/San Diego in December, MLC Media quietly pulled the plug on the format on April 1.
The Spanish language syndicator had begun leasing the Mexican signal on December 18 replacing Larsa Comunicaciones Spanish Talk/Adult Hits “Toño 104.9” on the Martha Barba de Diaz owned signal.
Leading to the demise was the fact that XHLNC-FM is licensed in Mexico as a non-commercial station. MLC Media VP/Operations Rogelio Macin told En Frecuencia, “This signal has a restricted license to broadcast for community service. We wanted to request a full commercial license, but several issues came across our path and we decided to let it go. The radio is now in hands of the original license owner.”
En Frecuencia reports that the 104.9 signal is now running Spanish Adult Hits without any branding.
It looks like Más Flo has just resurfaced on 107.7 (Tijuana-licensed XHRST)–which had been an affiliate of Los40 (but not one of its core/O&O outlets). In addition to being a commercial station, XHRST might provide better coverage of San Diego, Tijuana, and Rosarito than XHLNC.
