Deletions
In late December, Midwest Communications swapped the call letters of 1560 WTOU Portage and 1660 WQLR Kalamazoo MI. At the time 1660 dropped its Sports “1660 The Fan” format and became the originating station for Adult R&B “The Touch” 95.5 W238AL Portage. That had led to the license surrender of the 1580 Portage facility.
Following an FCC inquiry onto the station being Silent since May 2019, Down Home Broadcasting surrendered the license to 1450 WCOX Camden AL.
FCC Actions
Estrella Media has become the latest company to receive FCC approval to exceed 25% foreign ownership. Formerly LBI Media, the company restructured following its exit from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2019. While mostly a television operator, the company also owns sixteen radio stations in the Los Angeles and Riverside CA and Dallas and Houston TX markets. The FCC has granted Estrella the ability to increase the foreign ownership interest up to and including 100% equity and voting of the company.
